Eastern White Cedar

Overview

Few Canadian softwoods offer reliable natural decay resistance. Eastern White Cedar stands out, with an average service life of 27 years for a post in general climate conditions. Its excellent decay resistance and dimensional stability make it a durable, low-maintenance choice for a wide range of interior and exterior applications.

Durability and performance

Eastern White Cedar’s natural properties provide long-term performance: resistance to rot and insects, stable shrinkage characteristics, and a tendency to weather to a distinctive silvery grey that signals longevity. The many standing Eastern White Cedar barns are a visible testament to the species’ endurance.
